UGLY DUCKLING

FOOD MARKET

 

PROJECT

Ugly Duckling is a food market proposal that imagines to offer a space for the public where people are allow to engage with food that are grown by local farmers.

The aim of the project is to achieve zero-waste by eliminating storage areas. Based on North America statistics, 40% of food that are grown are actually wasted, majorly from super markets through its sorting process based on the aesthetic standards. Thus, the objective is to allow the public to engage daily with farmer’s food that are harvested from local area jumping the process of throwing out ugly-looking food.

 
 
 
 

Space and Rhythm

The placement of the plan is assembled with a checkers pattern. When a pop-up market is placed, next the seating area will be. Each pop-up market booth holds four individual mini-markets. From this method of aggregation, the interior space forms the roof, at the same time it achieves the core structural columns.
